My Prayer

When You see from Heaven’s throne
This sinful heap of flesh and bone
Without a virtue of my own,
How can You love me?

As You watch me on life's trail
And see the many times I fail
From leaning on a faith too frail,
How can You love me?

When You hear me as I pray
And ask Your will in me each day,
Then see me rise to go my way,
How can You love me?

When You hear me try to claim
The praise and glory to my name
For these talents which from You came,
How can You love me?

When You see me choose wrong’s night
And love it more than Heaven's light,
Which Jesus brought to give me sight,
How can You love me?

When You see the gifts You've sent
To make this life of mine content
,
And find them now all spoiled or spent,
How can You love me?

When You hear me say I will
To some good task my hands can fill
Then see me give half-hearted skill,
How can You love me?

When You forgave and forgot
And washed away my every spot,
Yet find me now forgiving not,
How can You love me?

When You let Christ take the blame
For all my sins and bear my shame
Then see me blush to speak His name,
How can You love me
?
