The first Christmas tree
The first
Christmas tree
Stood on
Calvary
;
One from Heaven sent
Was its Ornament;
He who knew no sin,
Was, by deeds of men,
Pierced and bruised and red
From blood freely shed
And from scars and scorn
And a crown of thorns
And scarlet of sin
Of misdeeds of men.

Also on
that tree
Hangs Eternity,
A gift of God’s love
Wrapped in the grace of
Him who took the place
Of the human race
To pay sin’s great cost
To redeem the lost,
A Gift meant for all
Who upon Him call;
And all who believe,
His gift will receive.
