Individual Note: WILLIAM ALFRED BRADDOCK
Professor Emeritus William Alfred Braddock of geological sciences at CU-Boulder died of cancer of the pleura on Jan. 1 in Boulder. He was 73.
Dr. Braddock was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Rifle, the son of Alfred Braddock and Doris Luebbert Braddock. He married Virginia Oberg on Dec. 17, 1949. They divorced. He married Carol Gerlitz on June 2, 1978, in Boulder.
He earned a Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1959.
He was a professor of geology at CU-Boulder, where he began teaching in September 1956. He retired on Sept. 1, 1994.
Dr. Braddock also had a career-long appointment with the U.S. Geological Survey to conduct research in the Front Range. The results of his research included papers on landslide complexes, the Front Range, the Pierre Shale and numerous detailed geologic maps, including the Geologic Map of Rocky Mountain National Park. He was a volunteer with Rocky Mountain National Park, the city of Boulder parks and recreation division and other groups, where he trained naturalists, led field trips, provided geological counsel and compiled geologic maps of open-space areas to educate visitors.
He is survived by his wife of Boulder; three sons, Douglas Braddock of Broomfield, and Nathan Braddock and Eric Braddock, both of Louisville; three stepsons, Mark P. Johnson of Durham, N.C., and Eric S. Johnson and Kirk L. Johnson, both of Boulder; a brother, Alfred Braddock of Cresbard, S.D.; a sister, Doris Sanders of Eufaula, Okla.; and 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Braddock.

Individual Note: PARNELL John K. Parnell, Sr., beloved husband of the late Irene B. Parnell. Born January 19, 1910 in Carrabelle, FL, father of seven sons and two daughters. He is survived by John K. Parnell, Jr. (Faye), Robert E. Parnell (Teresa), Richard H. Parnell (Harriett), Jimmy D. Parnell (Carolyn), Shirley M. Breaux (James), Frederick L. Parnell (Linda) and Barbara P. Williams, twenty five grandchildren and a host of great- grandchildren and Great-great- grandchildren. Mr. Parnell was a third Degree Mason for over 55 years with Riverside Masonic Lodge # 266 F. & A.M. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002 at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
