Individual Note:
     George Hardy patented 500 acres on July 17, 1648 "lying on east side of Lawne's Creek extending to main river and along the great river to a creek diviving the same from land of Alice Bennett." On 19th of June 1666 he made a deed to land which belonged to his wife Mary whom he refers to as the "daughter of Richard Jackson, dec." Individual Note:
     Colonel Arthur Smith, II, second son, succeeded his father's property after it was represented in the House of Burgesses that his brothers died without heirs. He was a Justice in 1675-80, Colonel of Militia in 1680, and a member of the House of Burgesses in 1685. He married Sarah Jackson for in June 1666 as "Arthur Smith, gentleman, of Pagan Creek," he made a deed to a parcel of land "at Blackwater" in the Isle of Wight "which belongs to said Arthur Smith by marriage with Sarah, daughter of Richard Jackson, deceased, and grandchild of Mrs. Alice Bennett." ***
Colonel Smith made his will Dec. 2, 1696, and same was probated June 10, 1697. In the will he entails certain lands on his children and "for want of issue to fall to the Parish of Newport for the maintaining and encouraging of a free school."
