Individual Note:
     Ruth Piper Hardee, born May 4, 1915, died March 15, 2006, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the
first white baby born at Kaspanga, Republic of Congo, Africa, where her parents were medical
missionaries. She was a member of Seminole Presbyterian Church, Tampa, Florida and a charter member
of Seminole's Woman's Club. Prior to residing in Tampa, Florida then in Jacksonville, Florida, she
served 11 years as a missionary nurse at the Piper Memorial Hospital that her parents established in
the Belgian Congo, Africa.

Her early education was at Sakeeji School for missionary children in Zambia, Africa. Coming to the
States, she then graduated from High School at Cazenovia Seminary, New York. She trained as a nurse
at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, NJ and Millersville State Teachers College, Millersville, PA.
Graduate studies were taken at Scarritt Chooege, Nashville, TN, Kennedy School of Missions,
Hartford, CT and Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. In 1949 the Belgian Governent decorated her
for services during the war years.

She is survived by two daughters, a son-in-law and a grandson. Jim, Dottie and James Loving of
Orange Park, FL and Ruthie Piper Hardee of Denver, CO., a sister and brother-in-law Dr. and Mrs.
L.W. Fairchild, twin nieces, Carol and Linda Fairchild all of Center Ossippee, NH and a nephew Dr.
David Fairchild of Fort Wayne, IN.
