Individual Note:
     He was a baker for Ambrosia Bakery in Jacksonville before going to work at the Ford Assembly plant in Jacksonville. He was later transferred to Norfolk, then back to Jacksonville before his death in 1935.

Individual Note:
     He served in the Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort running convoy duty to North Africa until it was found out he was only fifteen. He did not finish the ninth grade, but received a GED diploma. He attended business school.

He was employed as a computer operator for the Census Bureau in 1959 and worked his way up to programmer-supervisor. He was loaned to the USAID (US Aid to International Development) and spent several years setting up computer installations in various third world countries such as Ghana, Pakistan, South Vietnam, Surinam, and Quito, Ecuador. He met his second wife in Ecuador. After retirement he settled in Quito with her and their two young sons.

He received several honors for his work.

Individual Note:
     His mother died in July 1798. In November 1798, at the age of 22, he was appointed guardian of his two younger brothers.

He worked for the Atlantic Coast Line railroad in Hoboken, Ga. He died while his oldest son was still a teen-ager.

     He was a brakeman for the old Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He died in a railroad accident within days after his son Oswald's birth.

     He spent the better part of his working life with Jacksonville Gas Company until his retirement. His picture and an article were in the September 6, 1968 issue of the Jacksonville Journal for finding and returning a wallet containing $1500.00.

     Mr. Lewis O. Braddock, 82, of Waycross died early Sunday morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Waycross to the late Lewis Owen Braddock and Emma Mae Womble Wellborn. Mr. Braddock owned and operated B&S; Sales where he sold fishing tackle. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a deacon emeritus, greeter, taught Sunday School and worked with the youth. He was also a member of the Frank C. Folks Lodge No. 192 F&AM;, the Alee Temple and the Waycross Shrine Club. Mr. Braddock was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean War. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father John B. Wellborn.

Mr. Braddock is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Lee Braddock of Waycross; his children, Jimmy Braddock and his wife Sheila of Waycross, Bobby Lee Braddock of Waycross, Rebecca “Becky” Pritchard and her husband Joe of Valdosta, Jerome “Jerry” Oswald Braddock and his wife Teresa of Blackshear, Barry Owen Braddock and his wife Shonda of Waycross; his grandchildren, Brent B. Jacobs and his wife Cheryl of Hoboken, Monica B. Foster of Waycross, Mitzi M. Neck and her husband David of Crooked River, George R. Braddock and his wife Heather of Waycross, Bobby Lee Braddock, Jr., of Waycross, Brett Dylan Braddock of Waycross, Joseph Duncan Pritchard and his wife Shae of Lawrenceville, Jonathan Ashley Pritchard of Valdosta, Brittany Herbert of Hoboken, Landon Braddock of Blackshear, Kaylee Jade Braddock of Douglas, Kemory Nikol Braddock of Douglas, Ryan Carter of Waycross, Ashton Carter of Waycross; his great-grandchildren, Megan and Jake Foster of Waycross, Bridget, Hannah, Cassie and Ethan Jacobs of Hoboken, Hailey, Ben, Samuel and Bryce Braddock of Waycross.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today, March 20, 2007, in Hoboken Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, “Building Fund,” 201 Ava St., Waycross, Ga. 31501.
